Riddim Dubstep

Riddim is a sub-genre of dubstep that has been around for a long time in the underground. With the rise of the labels “Disciple Round Table” and “NSD Black label” it has gained more and more popularity within the past months. What differentiates riddim from bro- or dubstep are slamming snares, often layered with dark claps, and wide delays. You’ll often hear triplet percussions, small reverbs and a lot of flanger, phaser and chorus effects. The overall vibe can be described as deep, dark or aggressive, which is especially pleasing to hear on party drugs like MDMA, due to the repetitive and bouncy structures. Sometimes producers also like to insert typical trap elements like high pitched snare rolls, machine gun like hat loops or wall shaking 808 basses.

Some of the most popular and established producers of the genre are: Bukez Finezt, MONXX, 50 carrot, P0gman, Badklaat, Styn, Obey, Krimer, Subfiltronik, Infekt, IVORY, Dack Janiels, Midnight Tyrannosaurus, Fayte, Xaebor, Chibs, Phiso, Bloodthinnerz, Subtronics & JPhelpz. Thanks to the hype more mainstream producers like Zomboy, Barely Alive and Virtual Riot also started to use riddim samples in their recent tunes.
